Special Joint Meeting: Tuesday, May 1st

Please see the below message regarding a special joint meeting for BACA and Hanover Area Civic Association called by Bradley Thomas, ANC 5C01 comissioner.

Date: Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at 7:00 pm.
Location: CAPCS Charter School P and First St NW
From: Thomas, Bradley (ANC 5C01) [mailto:5C01@anc.dc.gov]
Subject: Special Joint SMD Meeting on Medical Marijuana Dispensary
Good Day All:

In light of the volume of comments (pro and con) about the pending application to locate a medical marijuana dispensary in the 1300 block of North Capitol Street, N.W., Commissioner Sylvia Pinkney and I are calling for a Joint Single Member District (SMD) Meeting for all residents of ANC5C01 and ANC5C02. The meeting will be held at the Community Academy Public Charter School (CAPCS), 1400 First Street, N.W. (entrance on P Street), on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. This may the only opportunity for all of us in the Bates and Hanover areas to put our heads together on this sensitive subject before the ANC meets the following Tuesday, May 8th, and votes on whether to support or oppose the application. We need to be able to tell our fellow commissioners where our residents stand on this issue.

Please come to the meeting and come with a resolve to be respective of all points of view, even if they differ from your own. Most of us have pretty strong views about this application but if we are going to be a community, we have to be willing to listen to and thoughtfully consider the points of view of those who we might not agree with.

Thanks, and I'll see you at CAPCS on Tuesday.

Special Meeting to Review Pending City Business

On May 2nd, the Hanover Area Civic Association will have a special meeting to review the neighborhood agreement with Big Ben Liquor and the proposed medical marijuana dispensary.  Please plan to attend at CAPCS, 6:30 pm on Wednesday, May 2nd.

Items for Neighborhood Input: ABRA License and Medical Marijuana Dispensary

Big Ben's liquor license is up for review.  Because there is Voluntary Agreement, we have an opportunity to review that agreement and the recent history of any crime related to the address.

We also will be reviewing the application for a medical marijuana dispensary application currently being considered for our neighborhood.  The official application is here; if you would like the 25 page proposal, please e-mail Hanover ACA to the gmail list to the right and it will be sent to you.
