Date: Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at 7:00 pm.
Location: CAPCS Charter School P and First St NW
From: Thomas, Bradley (ANC 5C01) [mailto:5C01@anc.dc.gov]
Subject: Special Joint SMD Meeting on Medical Marijuana Dispensary
Good Day All:

In light of the volume of comments (pro and con) about the pending application to locate a medical marijuana dispensary in the 1300 block of North Capitol Street, N.W., Commissioner Sylvia Pinkney and I are calling for a Joint Single Member District (SMD) Meeting for all residents of ANC5C01 and ANC5C02. The meeting will be held at the Community Academy Public Charter School (CAPCS), 1400 First Street, N.W. (entrance on P Street), on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. This may the only opportunity for all of us in the Bates and Hanover areas to put our heads together on this sensitive subject before the ANC meets the following Tuesday, May 8th, and votes on whether to support or oppose the application. We need to be able to tell our fellow commissioners where our residents stand on this issue.

Please come to the meeting and come with a resolve to be respective of all points of view, even if they differ from your own. Most of us have pretty strong views about this application but if we are going to be a community, we have to be willing to listen to and thoughtfully consider the points of view of those who we might not agree with.

Thanks, and I'll see you at CAPCS on Tuesday.
Bradley A. Thomas
A group of Hanover neighbors talked two weeks ago about what they saw as the priorities, and here are some points of consensus.

The proposed RFP (request for proposals) will not include the park, playground or recreation center, which is good. All of us want to see those spaces protected.

We want significant community involvement throughout the process AND we want the new use of that space to continue to benefit the community and allow us to be involved.

We want the space to benefit all ages and people in the community, and want that to be a requirement in whatever agreement is reached regarding the kiosk.Hanover Area Civic Associationhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05456892785907686605noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5132170815662357173.post-4447681006220377052010-11-04T11:08:00.000-07:002010-11-04T11:08:17.148-07:00NY Ave KioskThe DC Office of Real Estate Services will come to the HACA meeting on Nov 18th to discuss the NY Ave kiosk and the playground, as well as answer questions.
