NY Ave Kiosk

Tomorrow night there will be a discussion with a representative from the DC Real Estate Services regarding the NY Ave Library Kiosk.  A group of Hanover neighbors talked two weeks ago about what they saw as the priorities, and here are some points of consensus.

The proposed RFP (request for proposals) will not include the park, playground or recreation center, which is good.  All of us want to see those spaces protected.

We want significant community involvement throughout the process AND we want the new use of that space to continue to benefit the community and allow us to be involved.

We want the space to benefit all ages and people in the community, and want that to be a requirement in whatever agreement is reached regarding the kiosk.

The meeting was called to order by the president, Sylvia Matthews, at 6:45 pm.  There were seven residents present along with the ANC5C-02 Commissioner Sylvia Pinkney.  Officers present were the president, secretary and the treasurer.  The meeting opened with a prayer.  The agenda was passed out to all present.

A motion was made and accepted to file papers at DCRA as a civic association and charge a membership fee of $20 per household/ family.

New business: After a lengthy discussion on the Hanover Area Beautification a motion to delay the event to June 5 (this has since been further delayed until July 24) since our organization had not received the check from ANC5C and the checking account was not established.

Old business:  MM Washington was discussed and Ms. Pickney reported that the developer had not presented their plan to our group or the BACA group.  It was decided that the developers will be invited to next meeting.
